Day Trip from Muscat: Quriyat, Bimmah Sinkhole, Wadi Al Arbeieen & Wadi Dayqah Dam
Your journey begins from Muscat as we head southeast toward the coastal town of Quriyat — a quiet fishing village that offers an authentic glimpse into traditional Omani life. Our first stop will be the local fish market, where you can see traditional wooden fishing boats and a variety of freshly caught fish. Just nearby, we’ll visit the Portuguese Watchtower, a scenic point with ocean views that reflects the area’s colonial history.
As we drive out of Quriyat, you might be lucky enough to spot flamingos near the salt marshes — depending on the season and weather. You’ll also pass by salt flats where locals still practice the traditional salt harvesting technique directly from seawater — a unique cultural moment to witness.
Next, we’ll visit the famous Bimmah Sinkhole, a natural wonder formed by a collapsed limestone cavern. The turquoise water invites visitors to take a refreshing swim or simply enjoy the spectacular views. It’s an ideal stop for both photography lovers and nature seekers.
We then continue through the scenic mountain road of Dibab, descending into Wadi Al Arbeieen — one of Oman’s most beautiful hidden gems. You’ll pass by a small waterfall and clear pools where swimming is possible, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and rocky terrain.
From there, we drive along a dirt road passing through lush farms and dramatic mountain landscapes, with a short photo stop to capture the serene countryside.
Our final stop is the majestic Wadi Dayqah Dam, one of the largest dams in Oman. Here, you’ll enjoy a relaxing lunch (included) in a local restaurant with views of the reservoir and mountains — the perfect way to end a full day of exploration before returning to Muscat.
